The initial ‘Your Party’ meeting in Glasgow was arranged by Scottish activists and attended by comrades from across Scotland, including members of the Scottish Socialist Youth. For all who attended, it was clear to see the power that exists in the grassroots of this movement.
We in the SSY believe that if there is anything to be salvaged here, we need an immediate unifying statement from Sultana and Corbyn, and to not lose sight of the momentum and energy we already have. We need to use the organising infrastructure that has already been established, and to continue building a Scottish party on a local level – keep meeting, keep recruiting, keep getting the word out.
We continue to support the vision presented by the Platform for Socialism and Independence (PSI). We need a Scottish left party with its own leaders, its own constitution, and that makes its own decisions, and we call upon Your Party activists to support this vision too.
Yesterday displayed the political fervour that exists for a true left-wing party, and the mass sign ups to Your Party should be encouraging. People are desperate for a party that represents the working class, and we cannot allow that to hinge upon the decisions of MPs down south.
Don’t feel defeated by the discord among the top level of Your Party – in Scotland, we have all the energy we need to punch for a better, socialist future.
